When you work with dry pastels it is nice to have fixatives in hand for when you draw you can reach up a moment when the sheet can no longet take more paint. But after you place the fixative and the surface dries it is ready to take new pastel layers almost as if it is brand new.

This method of drawing on layers gives you better control over your painting and gives you az well the option to stop and start whenever you llike and to work over fine details of the drawing where you couldn't go before. And after the whole painting is ready you need to place the fixative on the full surface of the drawing for pastel particles need to be protected from falling from the sheet. It is in their nature to be dusty, but after the drawing is finished the dust must stay on the drawing especially when you will move it.
